An old saying states that losing money is equivalent to losing a little, losing honor is like losing half, and losing health is equivalent to losing everything.
Healthy
What does it mean to be healthy? While Western medicine defines health as a state of being free from disease or injury, traditional Oriental medicine determines it as a state of being in harmony with nature and humans, body and mind, Qi and blood, etc. A healthy appearance is one that exudes vitality and reflects good physical health. In other words, when you're healthy, you have more energy for your activities, you feel more self-assured, and your physical appearance radiates energetic beauty. This is one of main objectives in traditional Oriental/ Chinese medicine.
In this discussion of beauty, I don't mean the glamorized representations of beauty that the media markets as a product. These commodified representations of beauty make each person's distinctive and heterogenous beauty into something to be ashamed of simply because of difference. Before we realize it, we are staring at ourselves in the mirror of mass media, losing faith in our own sense of individuality and beauty by developing a look-alike syndrome.
Artificially produced beauty comes with its own set of side effects. True beauty in humans is created through subtle self-development within the context of nature and social interactions. External manifestations of inner beauty reflects internal health, and vice versa.
Sound body, sound mind, as the saying goes. The mind has no form, whereas the body is tangible. The body's shape or outward appearance is a reflection of the projected image of the formless mind. Our bodies and faces tense up when we are emotionally upset, giving the impression that we have lost control of our anger. Also, when the body is sick, the mind is depressed and loses focus.
Who does not appreciate beauty? Diversity not uniformity is what makes something beautiful. True beauty breaks away from uniformity where no two people are the same in color or shape. Oriental medicine is a tool that can help aging naturally, gracefully and radiantly while maintaining each one's distinctive beauty.
Oriental Medicine Health and Beauty
Traditional acupuncture addresses the underlying cause from the inside to balance and regulate the flow of Qi and blood, and additional complementary therapies such as guasha or nano/microneedling are used to help treat blemishes, detox, enhance skin tone and texture, and lessen wrinkles.
The Yang meridians of our body all pass through the face, and when they are stimulated, the body becomes more harmonized and energized. Therefore, acupuncture for cosmetic reasons on the face actually has the effect of energizing the whole body. Simply put, Oriental medicine beauty care is a holistic approach to health care that takes into account both internal and external factors.
Acupuncture and herbal products have been used in beauty treatmnets in Asian countries, but they may be unfamiliar to Westerners who are used to western beauty clinic and may doubt their efficacy. The reality is that we cannot anticipate the dramatic, instantaneous effects that we obtain from botox, fillers or plastic surgery. However, the overall result of maintaining our health and natural beauty can be anticipated.
Practicality
The course of treatment may vary depending on the traditional medical practitioner, or other efficient methods may be added to the course to achieve better results. The best skin care is done consistently and regularly, and when using Oriental medicine, it is crucial to find a practitioner who is qualified, licensed, skilled and knowledged in the subject.
Compared to traditional medicine beauty care, the cost of the same microneedling in a beauty clinic will be at least 2-3 times higher for just that one procedure. Which approach is right for your care ultimately comes down to personal preference.
I occasionally hear statements like "I was too busy to care about my appearance, but one day I looked in the mirror and suddenly saw a complete stranger" or "I was too busy taking care of my family and working to take care of myself, but one day I looked in the mirror and realized how old I had gotten."
Even though the beauty industry generates over $100 billion in revenue annually, a surprising number of people still lack the time or resources to invest in themselves.
You can choose to have plastic surgery for a makeover or visit a beauty salon, but if you choose Oriental medicine beauty care, I believe you will feel radiantly youthful and confident in your appearance while maintaining your distinctive individuality and natural beauty through rebalancing and unwinding your body, mind and spirit in accordance with the harmony of yin and yang.
